NASCAR
2 of October
Dale Jarrett cut a drought of 98 races without victories in the Talladega Superspeedway, whereas Tony Stewart recovered the leadership of the contest Nextel 2005, and the reputation and hopes of championship of Jimmie Johnson underwent a hard reverse. All this happened today, in 29º presentation of series NASCAR.
The legendary Jarrett escaped to the Chevrolet de Stewart in the final turn, after a tiebrake of three extra returns, to adjudge UAW-Ford 500, his first victory from 2003 when it won in the North Carolina Speedway.
Kyle Petty was the cause of the last interruption of the test, just when the leaders crossed the line of goal. NASCAR had to examine the tape to establish the order of final arrival.
Thus it was verified that Tony Stewart finished second, Matt Kenseth third and Ryan Newman fourth.
With the put second of today, Stewart jumped four squares in the table of pilots to become new leader, with an advantage of only four units on Newman, who in first instance appeared like new leader of the points, but soon it settled down that the pilot of Dodge crossed the goal quarter harvesting a total of 165 points.
Jimmie Johnson, who began the day like leader of the championship, was implied in two accidents and it was delayed to the fourth place in the positions, 82 points back.
Talladega, along with Daytona, is one of the tracks where all the conductors must use the “restrictor plates”, small fins that slow down and improve the stability of the cars in the quickest track.
Nevertheless two impressive accidents happened nowadays, and involved to five of the candidates title 2005.
Jimmie Johnson returned to be the cause of another accident, as it happened in April of this same year. In this Jimmie occasion it back struck of at that time the leader Elliott Sadler, causing a cannon that involved eight competitors.
Mike Skinner, Michael Waltrip, Mark Martin and Dale Earnhardt Jr had to retire of the test with severe damages in their respective machines. However Johnson, I continue in competition.
“It is very easy to blame to me, but in a track like this, at so high speed, they are things that can happen”, Johnson excused itself.
But for Johnson that was not the unique incident of the day, also became jumbled in another still more spectacular shock, when Newman struck to Casey Mears. Rusty Wallace and Greg Biffle damaged their vehicles, whereas Scott Riggs gave several somersaults that reduced their Chevrolet to a twisted iron battery.
“We will try to secure so many points as we pruned and to hope to that our rivals thus commit errors and to gain some positions more”, explained Biffle.
With this victory, I number 32, Dale Jarrett demonstrated that still it is in form and able to win in one of the most demanding tracks of the calendar. It will have much to do his rencuentro with his old group leader, Todd Parrott, the past week.
Dupla Jarrett- Parrott was very successful, with two victory in Daytona 500 (1996 and 2000) and the championship of 1999. Together they gained 26 victories, but Parrott left at the end of season 2002 and thence Jarrett has changed seven group leaders since then.
