Equal strategies, but the luck accompanied one more than another one. Ryan Newman, with Dodge, took the victory in the Chicagoland Speedway after his rival next, Kevin Harvick, entered to pits for a resupply nonanticipated to very little of the end.
Newman and Harvick used the same strategy of race. Both filled their tanks to plenary session in turn 198, when they reduced 69 turns for the end. Newman, product of the most moderate consumption of its Dodge, reached the goal. Whereas Harvick, with its Chevrolet, had to enter unexpectedly to pits.
Perhaps not only the greater consumption of the Chevrolet harmed Harvick, the North American came very hard pressing to reach to Newman, and that motivated a greater consumption of its V8 motor.
“Not really that it happened”, Harvick explained. “Perhaps it is not it has filled up all the tank in my last halting…”, adding, “Had a great car until I have left without fuel. We had predicted almost six returns of are the things more and so we recharged pit in the last stop, but thus”, concluded Kevin.
When Harvick remained without fuel, it had the prize at least consolation of being able to arrive at pits, to recharge the tank, and to culminate 17º. In fact if Harvick had fought until the end with Newman, surely there would be milkshake, since its Montecar it one was in better conditions.
“Harvick had a very quick car and that was worrisome for my”, said Newman winner. “The consumption of my car was key for the victory. The moan by Kevin, would have been a great end between both.”
Newman, with its Dodge Intrepid of the equipment Penske Racing South Dodge, equaled to the pilot of Ford Kurt Busch in majors numbers of secured victories this year. Newman and Busch tie with three triumphs each.
Tony Stewart, that started from pole, inherited the put second of Harvick but at no moment it could to fight to him to Newman, arriving at almost three seconds of the pilot of Dodge.
“I believe that my car was quickest of the race”, the champion explained. “My times were very competitive on the end, but there was no case with Ryan”, ended up commenting.
Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon, both companions in the equipment Hendrick Motorsports, finished third and quarter respectively. With this Gordon result it was able to shorten points to the leader of the contest Matt Kenseth, that arrived 12º. The difference between both is of 165 points.
In turn 214 one of the most dramatic moments of the race took place. Johnny Benson and Casey Mears were touched causing the confusion of other five cars, among them the one of the ex- champion Bobby Labonte who began to catch fire immediately after the impact. Labonte was able to take the protective grate of the cockpit and to throw itself to I graze with part of its diver antiflame in flames.
“I am well”, said Bobby. “There was a great incident in front of me and I thought that it could avoid it, but was not thus. The flames propagated quite fast and delays more of the predicted thing to leave the car”, explained Labonte.
Another one of the candidates to the championship, Dale Earnhardt Jr, stayed between the leaders during good part of the test, but in the end term crashing against the wall in return 208.
