To only two returns of the end of 400 km of City of Mexico of the category of the Daytona Prototypes of the Series Grand-A.m. Rolex Sports Car presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve, pilot Alex Gurney, of the equipment no. 99 GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing Pontiac Riley - that east weekend made equipment with the runner Jon Fogarty- took the commando from the race and crossed the goal like winner in the historical Automobile race track Brother Rodriguez where the father of Alex, Gives Gurney, gained the Great Prize of Mexico in 1964.
This it is the first triumph of escudería GAINSCO, that this weekend, like tribute to the Mexican fanatics, took a special design in its car, with the colors green, red and white of the flag of the country host.
Fogarty/Gurney of the Gainsco equipment
“In the started one, with Colin (Braun) we were ahead rather well”, said Fogarty after the celebration in podio. “I could not trim the distance with him, so we decided to conserve a little the fuel. With that, we could give him to the car to Alex with rims a little fresher. The track is hard, but we enjoyed the race. It was a wild event, so I left Alex did all the work dirty. We hope that from now on the triumphs arrive with more frequency”.
“Jon passed the car to me in the second place, so we knew that we had an opportunity”, Fogarty explained. “The track was working well at the beginning of my turn, but as soon as it passed Max to me, I thought that it was going away to give off. Max was super express and when we ran into with the traffic of the GT in curve 8 and it happened, it was like a dagger in my heart. Unfortunately for him and luckyly for us, it had a small problem and we could return (to the first place). He could not be in favor happier by Bob Stallings (proprietor of the equipment), by GAINSCO and all the equipment, that worked very hard”.
Secondly position of the equipment Krohn Racing
The car no. 75 Krohn Racing Pontiac Riley, that had done pole position in the session of Friday and that was lead by Max Papis - one of the champions of the Daytona Prototypes in 2004 - and Colin Braun, who as soon as it has 18 years of age, finished in the second position in spite of having dominated great part of the event.
“Podio Is huge to have another one here”, said Braun. “The car of Krohn Racing was very well all the day. Fodder that Max did a work wonderful. Everything was very smooth and the equipment completed the car very well. It would wish that we had won, but thus are the races”.
Papis, that seemed to have the race in its hands and lost the car in curve 5 of return 98 to two of the end, explained the happened thing.
“The car Krohn Racing was making all the times. The problem is that we obtained traffic at the mistaken moment. I saw Alex approaching and I could not do nothing. When I saw three together cars in curve 8 I thought that it was my opportunity and I could pass it. Unfortunately, it was a fault in the brain, to three returns of the end. I feel bad by Colin and all the Krohn equipment but I want to congratulate to Not the 99 by a good work done”.
The third position of the competition was occupied by the pilots of the no. 10 SunTrust Racing Pontiac Riley, that this weekend was into the hands of the Italian Max Angelelli and of the Danish Jan Magnussen.
Angelelli/Magnussen/Taylor raised the third step of podio
“It was a difficult race”, said Angelelli. “Grand-A.m. is a very hard Series. You must go thoroughly all along for mantenerte in the top. For us it was a good end (by the points for) the championship and the SunTrust equipment did another good work today”.
“We had a good one started”, assured Magnussen. “Simply I tried to maintain the rate with car (no.) 05 whereas the leaders were distanced ahead. I had a problem leaving curve 4 and unfortunately I made contact with enemy. That really did not help us but Max (Angelelli) did a great work in the car and was a good race by the points”.
Braun was the pilot of the Daytona Prototypes who led major number of returns (56), followed by Papis (30), Gurney (11) and Fogarty (3).
The first three positions of the race were occupied by the Pontiac-Riley combination. The race was disputed to 100 returns and there were no yellow flags.
The American Scott Pruett - No.01 TELMEX Ganassi Chip with Happy Sabates Lexus Riley- that in season 2006 gained 400 km of City of Mexico next to the Mexican pilot, Luis Diaz, this year shared the responsibilities of handling with a new coequipero, Red Memo, with that finished in the fourth position. Pruett continues in the first place of the table of points of the pilots of the Daytona Prototypes, with 63 points.
The group of the five first completed the equipment No.23 Alex Job Racing Porsche Crawford, whose pilots they are Patrick Long and the champion of season 2006 of the Daytona Prototypes, Jörg Bergmeister.
In the ninth position the team of Michael Shank Racing finalized with its pilots Patterson/Negri Jr.
The Brazilian Oswaldo Negri (No.60 Michael Shank Racing Lexus Riley) and their companion Mark Patterson, managed to be located in the ninth position, whereas the Venezuelan Milka Duno and Patrick Carpentier that shared car no. 11 SAMAX Motorsports Pontiac Riley crossed in front of the picture flag in 11º square.
Behind them, the pilots were located Memo Gidley - American, although considered Mexican since he was born in La Paz, Mexico and the Mexican Jorge Goeters (77 no. Feeds The Needs/Gilds Racing Ford Gild).
On the other hand, the Brazilian Christian Fittipaldi (no. 39 Cheever Racing Porsche Fabcar), finished in position 35, after only crossing 51 of the 100 returns of the competition.
