Racing jaguar has presented/displayed today its car for season 2004, the R5 Jaguar in the Circuit de Catalonia. The pilots, Mark Webber and Christian Klien, are proudly keeping awake the new single-seater, that is based on the best characteristics of the car of the previous year (R4). Next to Mark and Christian were some of the members of the equipment responsible for the development of the car, David Pitchforth (Director), Ian Pocock (Director of Engineering) Horseradish tree Agathangelou (Head of the Dpto. of Aerodynamics), Rob Taylor (Head of Design), Dr Mark Gillan (Responsible for Yield), Dr Ian Pocock (Head of Engineering) and Tony Purnell (President of Premier Performance Division, who supervise the operations in Jaguar Racing, Cosworth Racing and Pi electronics). the R5 Jaguar is the first car that we have been able to design completely from zero with our new structure and using our new philosophy to base us on the learned thing in the previous season ", commented David Pitchforth, Director of Racing Jaguar. This car has been completed enough that in previous years and is a evolution of a car which already we know well and that has many strongpoints. It would not say that we have solved all the problems of the previous year, but a thing that we have not done with the R5 is to change things simply because we did not understand them ", added Pitchforth. Although we drag some of the problems that the R4 had, is better to use something than we think that it is possible to be solved that to run risks with something totally new. The Head of the Dpto. of Aerodynamics, Horseradish tree Agathangelou, explains the philosophy used in the R5. Aprendimos much of the R4 working with few risks and of conventional form and now, the stability that are in all the departments of the equipment has given us the opportunity to make of the R5 an authentic improvement. it has taught much to me because it is the first time that we have had a car which we trusted and that we know rather well. That has given the possibility us of improving it and of evolving it instead of to run risks as we had to do before. Initiating his second season with the equipment, the Australian Mark Webber commented. Tuve the opportunity to prove the car in Lommel the past week and the initial results is satisfactory. This year we will have to work in our yield in race, since it has been a more loose area for us in the past. In we did it rather well to qualification, but it is necessary to transfer those results to the race if we want to secure points. The norm that allows to use a single motor will cause that there are problems of reliability in the first races and we must be preparations to take the opportunities when they appear. A good beginning will also give certain advantage us during the year, in which we will have to continue evolving. Basically, which we needed is to have a good progression and to secure more points than in the 2003. Next to Mark was the new pilot of Formula 1, the Austrian Christian Klien, of 20 years, that were hardly gotten up to the equipment seven weeks ago. could not have wished a better opportunity to initiate my race in F1. It waits for a long process to me of learning, but the equipment offers a great support to me. Not only I have a very fast companion but also to whom it is very good working in equipment. I cannot hope to put me in the car and to initiate what will be an intense testing program. Lacking only six weeks for the first race of the season, there is much work to do, but it is what I have always dreamed. There is much difference between the Formula the 1 and Formula 3, from which I come. Nevertheless, it is what hoped and now I must prepare me for that challenge. Nick Hayes, Technical Director of Cosworth Racing explains the history of the motor. motor CR6 V10 is a evolution of the motor of the last year, so it continues being a V10 of 90 degrees, but has a greater life expectancy to fulfill the norm of the 2004 by which the weekend of Great Prize can only be used throughout a motor. Previously, a motor lasted about 450 to 500 km but now we hoped that 800 km last about, so we have worked in the CR6 to maintain the greater yield with the maximum durability much. Many of the components of a motor of the 2003 lasted little more than a race, so they had not lasted nor by far all the weekend. Therefore, great part of our work lately has been to see as we could extend its duration without affecting its yield. It will be without a doubt one season difficult for all the motors of the grill. The R5 Jaguar tried on Monday of the week last in the zone of tests of Ford the Motor company in Lommel, Belgium and today it will roll for the first time in a circuit of Great Prize in the Circuit de Catalonia.
