The equipment Lucky Strike BAR Honda presented/displayed the BAR005, single-seater officially whereupon they will confront season 2003 of Formula 1. The event took place in the Circuit de Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain.
In the presentation they were present its head, David Richards; its Technical Director, Geoffrey Willis; its two titular pilots, the Canadian Jacques Villeneuve and Briton Jenson Button; and its two pilots of tests, the Briton Anthony Davidson and the Japanese Takuma Sato.
“The 2003 will be a year of challenge for BAR, but we have taken a significant passage towards the front during the winter. Along with our partners, Lucky Strike, Honda and Bridgestone, I am trusting of which we will significantly advance towards our objective of long term to gain the world-wide championship. No of the other equipment has remained unemployed, although, reason why we will need to fortify itself during all the season to obtain our goals. With a car very improved, Jacques Villeneuve it will be able to now demonstrate his extraordinary talent, whereas Jenson Button, with 3 seasons in its salary, well is positioned to defy to the runners of ahead. Together with ours third pilot, Takuma Sato, I feel that BAR now has an alignment of pilots that is on a par of anyone in Formula 1”, said Richards.
“We want to compete by the first 3 positions in the 2003. Our objective is to finish all the races, to be regularly in the points, and to arrive at podio so followed as we pruned. We are very trusting, and is going to be a substantially better car, and a package substantially better of motor and together chassis. We have defined new objectives of performance when we designed the car, from the reduction of weight, the rigidity, the aerodynamic efficiency, and the performance of the motor, whose intention is to help us to compete with which they are to the front of the grill. Villeneuve trusts that with this new car chances for the championship can have majors.
“At least this car is really looked like a Formula 1, this is a good beginning. I believe that we will be able to fight less of equal to equal with any equipment against Ferrari. At the moment I cannot say nothing else because it is in a moment, to just I will be able to say something them more as of the second week of training, I am going there to have one better idea of the car”, said Villeneuve.
For Button its first year in BAR will be of adaptation. “We cannot know that so good it is the car until they do not spend some weeks of tests. I am waiting for a difficult year and of adaptation. This it is the beginning of a long commitment”, said Button.
We compared if it with its predecessor, the BAR004, the new single-seater are smaller, light (it presents/displays new internal bulkheads), lower center of gravity and the lift-to-drag ratio improved. Also it presents/displays a new gear box, the main frame is of aluminum with component Xtrac interns. The suspensions were obtained more compact, it refined to the fuel systems and cooling.
The motor that will use the equipment is the Honda RA003e V10 that presents/displays a significant reduction of weight, is smaller and with greater power.
The person in charge of the division Honda, Takeo Kiuchi, presented/displayed the new impelling plant.
“We think that this additional support that we will render to him to BAR will increase the possibilities of the car and will demonstrate once and for all that Honda wants to compete at the high level in Formula 1.
