At the beginning of 1970 at that time the stranger Rum Dennis planned his carefully first incursion in Formula 1. With the economic support of the oil Motul, Dennis glided to enter to the F1 with a car constructed by Ray Jessop, but the crisis of petroleum untied in 1973 frustrated the project and Dennis was forced to leave its attempt.

Token RJ02 with the colors of Motul but with the logo of Shell. The first oil one retired before the launching of Token by the crisis of petroleum
Even so at that time already the capable Dennis sold the project to two British businessmen called Tony Vlassopoulo and Ken Grob. The new project would be denominated Token, “To” by Tony and “Ken” exactly by Ken. The car was designed by Ray baptized Jessop and with abbreviation RJ02 (the standards of its designer). The flaming vehicle was impelled by a motor Ford 3,0 Cosworth DFV V8 and owned a box of Hewland speeds. In as much Firestone it provided to the tires and Shell fuels and lubricants. The design of the vehicle was somewhat strange, quite wide, with a very generous front tube and a ram air in the form of oval.

The car made debut of way nonofficial in the Silverstone International Trophy, a nonpuntuable race, where the Briton Tom Pryce was summoned like pilot. The result was not the hoped one, Pryce was classified last in the practices to 26 seconds of fastest, the Hesketh de James Hunt. In competition it only completed 15 turns before leaving by mechanical problems.

In Great Britain the car already shone the colors white and red. Here into the hands of the Briton David Purley. It was the unique race that Token could not be classified
Whatsoever the equipment did not surrender and prepared the debut of the Token in the championship of the world of Formula 1. His first incursion was in the Great Prize of Belgium of 1974, 5º valid date of the world-wide one. In classification Tom Pryce it did not go off key and it located to the Token novice in 20º put between 32 competitors. Its time was of the 1 ' 12,85, 3,03 second only slowest one than author of pole, the Ferrari de Clay Regazzoni. The debut had been more than encouraging.

In Pryce race it marched 20º until in return 66 of 85 it collided with the Tyrrell de Jody Scheckter when this one get ready to reduce a turn to him. The following date was the Great Prize of Monaco, but the directors of the race considered that Pryce still was very inexpert to compete in the Principality and they prevented him to take part from the race. Disappointed Pryce he left the equipment and one left to Shadow.

Then the Token equipment had to hope 3 races to find the reemplazante of Pryce more. It went as well as it reached an agreement with the Briton David Purley to return to the F1 in the Great Prize of the United Kingdom to dispute itself in Brands Hatch. Lamentably Purley remained there outside of the classification by only 3 tenth of second. After the frustrated Purley attempt it left escudería being replaced by another Briton, Ian Ashley, nicknamed “the duro”.

Ian Ashley journeying the circuit of Nurburgring. It was the best action of Token in a Great Prize. In race it marked 13º faster time of the fight
The new one defied of Token was nothing else and nothing less than the most difficult one drawing up of Nurburgring. There Ian Ashley classified to the RJ02 in the last position, to 23,8 seconds of fastest Niki Lauda. Ashley finally took to the vehicle to the picture flag after little more than 1 hour and 40 minutes of race in the demanding one drawing up. The Briton classified 14º, anteúltimo, to 1 return of the winner Clay Regazzoni. That one race would be remembered by Token like the unique one in which its car saw the flag pictures.

The money began to finish soon and the Great Prize of Austria would see the last participation of a Token in race. Ian Ashley returned to classify itself, in this occasion in 24º put to 3,27 seconds of the Ferrari de Lauda. During the competition the RJ02 underwent problems in the direction which took to the Briton to pause in 2 opportunities at boxes. Finally Ashley crossed the goal to 8 returns of the winner and it was not classified in the event.

It completes presentation of Token in Formula 1. It was the unique race where Token underwent mechanical problems
After the Great Austrian Prize, after only 4 participation in F1, the pockets of Vlassopoulo and Grob they were empty. There were not no patrocinantes nor pilots either prepared to contribute money escudería. It was not accustomed either to it in those years. The end was decreed, Token retired financially broken of Formula 1. Whatsoever Token had not done it so badly, had participated in 4 competitions and had only taken part in 3 from them, being eliminated in 1 by little difference. Token managed to cover the total distance with a race in Germany, exactly in the most difficult track of all the calendar, Nurburgring.

The then question is obvious, What could have occurred if Token had counted with the economic support sufficient to continue developing its car? …
